Mammakoto
April 2020
The Mammakoto people came to life during our first lockdown.
We all started clearing up our homes and while going through old photographs a fictional world with healers and motivators was born.
Mammakoto women are inspired by the women in my life, family members and friends, alive and long gone, who have formed my outlook on life.
The invisible city of Mammakoto in Bakru Kondre is a matriarchal society where all the mothers are spiritual healers.
During their first pregnancy the production of the Trangatropin hormone is triggered, which gives them lifelong spiritual powers.
When they give birth to a girl, they go through an initiation process in which they have to spend their first year of motherhood with the oldest mother in their society.
During this time the mothers learn all the levels of meditation needed to be able to practice their healing powers.
